Stewart Memorial Community Hospital offers complete obstetrical services including labor and delivery, cesarean section, postpartum and newborn care. The department consists of two private labor, delivery and postpartum rooms. These rooms are designed to look more like a bedroom than a hospital room. There is a hide-away couch to be used by your support person and a whirlpool for the mother-to-be to enjoy. Hydrotherapy (the use of water during labor) is increasing in popularity. Many women feel that the water is very soothing and an alternative to other methods of pain relief while in labor or even after the birth. It is our hope (depending on patient numbers and circumstances) that you will stay in one of these two rooms from admission until discharge. Our department also has two other rooms to be used as needed for after delivery.

Due to shorter hospital stays, parents are encouraged to have their babies in their room most of the time, so they can learn their newborn's unique behaviors. Our nurses consider teaching postpartum and newborn care a top priority and they provide hands-on teaching tailored to your specific needs.

Our newborn nursery is connected to the O.B. nurse’s station and is always available when Mom needs extra rest. Stewart Memorial offers all of our newborns a free of charge hearing screening test and follow-up as necessary. An O.B. nurse is on staff 24 hours a day and available to answer questions at anytime.

When asked to share her opinion one of our patients stated, "Our stay was perfect" I didn't want to go home! The new O.B. room is beautiful and the whole experience will never be forgotten! I'm very happy to have a hospital with great services in our little town.
