PET/CT Scanner

The combination PET/CT scanner is a mobile service that comes to Lake City twice a month. The positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) are combined into one scanner so physicians can get a broader look at the internal function of a patient's body.

A PET scan detects changes in cellular function – how a person's cells are utilizing nutrients like sugar and oxygen. Since these functional changes take place before physical changes occur, PET scan can provide information that enables doctors to make an early diagnosis. This is the latest technology and valuable in assisting our physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients. It is also useful in diagnosing Alzheimer's disease, dementia, stroke, brain tumors and seizures as well as determining the viability of the heart.
