Services include mammography, CAT scans, bone densitometry, ultrasound, general radiology, mobile PET/CT scans, mobile Nuclear Medicine, and mobile MRI. The department has teleradiology capabilities with Mercy Hospital in Des Moines for 24-hour radiology reading services. This connection allows the hospital to provide expert radiology services in a much more timely fashion. The CT and ultrasound images made in Lake City can be transmitted via direct digital capture to Des Moines in 10 minutes. Besides the teleradiology arrangement, a Mercy radiologist is in Lake City twice a week to work directly with our patients. All radiologists in this group are board certified and fellowship trained in various specialty areas. Our ultrasound department is staffed by an ARDMS board certified sonographer. The new DEXA scanner measures the density of the spine and hips that are the most frequent sites of fracture. This study helps identify osteoporosis risk at a much earlier stage than previously possible. The mammography department, inspected by the Food and Drug Administration and the Iowa Department of Public Health, was awarded a superior rating with no deficiencies. The department is equipped with a mammography machine that meets all FDA guidelines and offers state of the art imaging of the breast.
