A native of Lohrville, Iowa, Audrey earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grand View University and gained experience in behavioral healthcare prior to joining Stewart Memorial. She is passionate about helping patients navigate transitional issues, loneliness, depression, anxiety, and relationship concerns, focusing on building a supportive, non-judgmental environment where clients feel empowered. Outside of work, Audrey enjoys baking, reading, watching movies, and spending time with her family, friends, and dog.

Samuel Whittier, MD

Ophthalmology

Samuel A. Whittier, MD is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist who specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of multiple eye diseases.

Dr. Whittier received a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, with a minor in Chemistry at Weber State University followed by his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Utah. He then spent an additional year as an Imaging Fellow and Associate Research Specialist before pursuing an internship at the University of Wisconsin where he continued his studies in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. He is originally from Weber County, Utah but enjoyed his time in Wisconsin, prompting him to stay in the Midwest.

Dr. Whittier and his wife, Amber, enjoy life’s adventures along with their three boys. They enjoy spending time outdoors, biking, playing sports, and listening to live music. Dr. Whittier and his family look forward to exploring Iowa and meeting many new people along the way.

Josh Smith, DO, is a board-certified general surgeon with Stewart Memorial. After graduating from Des Moines University’s School of Osteopathic Medicine with honors, he completed his residency at Des Moines General Hospital. There, he was appointed Chief Surgery Resident from 1998 to 1999. Dr. Smith is a member of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and the Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association. When he’s not spending time with his five children, Dr. Smith enjoys a variety of outdoor activities including skiing, fishing, and scuba diving.

Lake City Native Julia Richardson, MD, offers family medicine and obstetrics services at the Lake City and Rockwell City Clinics. Dr. Richardson became interested in medical science at a young age, being the daughter of veterinarians. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree at Iowa State University, and earned her Medical Degree from the University of Iowa, making her a proud CyHawk. Before coming to Stewart Memorial, her family lived in Nebraska as she completed her medical residency. Dr. Richardson is passionate about obstetrics, lactation support, pediatrics, and women’s health. Dr. Richardson enjoys spending her free time with her family. She says, “To be a part of serving the great need for rural healthcare in my own hometown is such a privilege.”
