Project ImPACT

Project ImPACT (Improving Parents as Communication Teachers) is an evidence-based early intervention program designed for young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or social communication delays.

At Stewart Memorial, Project ImPACT is a collaborative treatment model that coaches caregivers to support their child’s communication, play, and social engagement during daily routines. Services may include coordination with speech, occupational, and physical therapy to meet each child’s unique developmental needs.

This program focuses on empowering parents and caregivers with practical, research-based strategies that can be used in everyday interactions to support their child’s development and strengthen connection.

How Project ImPACT works:

  • Parent-mediated intervention where caregivers learn and practice strategies with guidance from a trained therapist
  • Focus on improving communication, social engagement, imitation, and play skills
  • Strategies are integrated into daily routines like mealtime, playtime, and caregiving activities
  • Sessions include modeling, coaching, and feedback to build confidence and consistency at home

Who Can Benefit:

  • Young children (typically under age 6) with autism or suspected autism
  • Children with delays in communication, social interaction, or play skills
  • Families looking for hands-on tools to support development at home
