Radiography X-ray
X-ray is a common imaging technique used in medicine. It involves sending small amounts of radiation through the body, which passes through and is captured to create an image. This image appears in varying shades of white, gray, and black, depending on how much radiation each tissue absorbs.
Bones absorb the most radiation, appearing white on the image, while soft tissues absorb less and show up in shades of gray. Air-filled spaces, such as the lungs, absorb the least radiation and appear black.
As the most widely used exam in radiology, an X-ray is typically the first step in diagnosing various health issues. It’s a quick, non-invasive, and efficient way to identify problems such as fractures, infections, or abnormalities in the body.
How do I prepare?
There is no preparation needed for general x-ray. You may be asked to change into a gown or remove any metal as it will show up on the images. X-ray exams only take about 5-10 minutes and you will be done.
When will I get my results?
Your exam will be read within 24 hours and your provider will get the report. Please allow your provider time to review the results and they will call you or go over them at your return appointment.
