Ultrasound

Ultrasound is an imaging exam that uses sound waves instead of radiation to create images of the inside of the body. It is non-invasive and particularly useful for visualizing blood flow and the movement of organs.

During the procedure, a sonographer will begin by asking a few questions to obtain a brief medical history. The patient will then be asked to lie on the exam table. The sonographer will apply a small probe, which is covered in gel, to the area of interest. The gel helps the sound waves travel more effectively through the skin. The exam usually lasts between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the body part being examined.

Ultrasound is commonly used for a variety of purposes, including checking for issues with organs, monitoring pregnancies, and assessing blood flow.

How do I prepare?

Majority of ultrasound exams don’t require preparation. Abdominal exams you will be asked to not eat or drink anything for 6-8 hours prior and pelvic exams we ask you come with a full bladder.

When will I get my results?

Your exam should be read the same day, please give your physician time to review your results and they will give you a call.
