Dizziness or vertigo are conditions that occur for many different reasons.  Symptoms can include dizziness, loss of balance, nausea and trouble focusing the eyes. Patients with the conditions can benefit from vestibular rehab services to address their condition.

Why should I choose Stewart Memorial?

Our physical and occupational therapists have undergone specialized training specific to treating dizziness and vertigo issues.  They rely on their many years of experience and knowledge in treating vestibular conditions when determining your therapy needs.

What should I expect at my appointment?

If you experience severe dizziness, we recommend having someone drive you to your first appointment. Please arrive 20 minutes early to complete intake paperwork, which includes details about your condition, affected daily activities, and medical history. Your therapist will then assess your condition and recommend treatment. Most sessions include 40 minutes of one-on-one time with your therapist, though session lengths may vary based on your needs.

A common cause of vertigo is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), where tiny calcium deposits, or “ear rocks,” become dislodged in the inner ear’s semicircular canal, affecting motion and balance. This can cause dizziness, spinning sensations, and nausea. Using the Canalith Repositioning Technique, therapists can reposition the “ear rocks,” often resolving symptoms within a few treatments.
