announces new Orthopedic Surgery program.

Dr. Lee Hieb joins hospital as orthopedic surgeon

The physicians and staff at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital are pleased to introduce and welcome Dr. Lee Hieb, orthopedic surgeon, to their team. The Iowa native is returning to the Hawkeye state after spending the last 14 years practicing in Yuma, Arizona. “I grew up on a farm in Iowa and wanted to return to the area,” stated Dr. Hieb with a warm smile. Her desire to practice medicine and help others started when she was a child. “My father was a physician and a dentist. When I was little, I would make home visits with him,” recalls Dr. Hieb, who is a third generation physician. After graduating from high school, Dr. Hieb attended Grinnell College and then went on to the University of Iowa. She earned her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, New York. She established a practice in Arizona where her husband, a former Navy Commander, was stationed. “We really enjoyed Arizona while we were there but I wanted to get back to my roots, which are in Iowa. With my husbands retirement, coming back to Iowa became a realistic dream,” noted Hieb. The orthopedic surgeon will start seeing patients at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in late June and will be accepting new patients. Her specialty is in arthroscopy, spine and cervical disc surgery. She also handles fracture care, carpal/cubital tunnel surgery, joint injections and aspirations, pediatric orthopedic care, neurology consultation, general orthopedics, fusions and disc repair and kyphoplasty. “I am very excited to join the team at Stewart Memorial and continue the tradition of excellent care that Dr. Thomas Dulaney has begun here at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital,” noted Hieb. With the addition of Dr. Hieb to the medical staff at Stewart Memorial, patients with back and joint pain will have the option to use her services instead of traveling a long distance. “We are very fortunate to have a surgeon with such experience and passion for patients to join our team. Dr. Hieb is exactly what we had hoped to find when we started exploring the thought of starting an orthopedic program. I knew from the moment we met that she would be an asset to this community,” noted Michele Mink Davis, VP clinic services.
