Stewart Memorial Community Hospital (SMCH) is pleased to announce it has been named a 2017 Guardian of Excellence Award® winner by Press Ganey. The Guardian of Excellence Award recognizes top-performing health care organizations that have consistently achieved the 95th percentile or above of performance in Patient Experience.

The Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award is a nationally-recognized symbol of achievement in health care. Presented annually, the award honors clients who consistently sustained performance in the top 5% of all Press Ganey clients for each reporting period during the course of one year.

SMCH HomeCare staff provide individuals and their families with professional healthcare services in their own home on a periodic basis. Services are provided seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Emphasis is placed on promoting, maintaining or restoring health or minimizing the effects of an illness through a variety of services like skilled nursing visits, social services, OB visits, speech and physical therapy. Services are coordinated to achieve the best results for the patient.

“Coordination of care includes the introduction of homecare staff to the patient prior to release from the hospital to help make the connection easier. Homecare patients receive individualized care specific to their goals to assure success in their transition back to better health. The care coordination includes other healthcare workers such as rehab services and the communication between departments is key. Our patients feel like family,” comments Cindy Carstens, CEO at SMCH.

According to Cindy Carstens, the award represents an important recognition from the industry’s leader in measuring, understanding and improving the patient experience. “Our partnership with Press Ganey provides us with  monthly feedback that allows us to recognize staff for great work as well as create  process improvement plans for an experience that did not go as desired,” she comments.

“We are proud to partner with Stewart Memorial Community Hospital,” said Patrick T. Ryan, CEO of Press Ganey. “This award is a testament to the organization’s leadership in delivering patient-centered care. By achieving and sustaining this level of excellence, Stewart Memorial Community Hospital continues to demonstrate their commitment to reducing patient suffering and advancing the overall quality of health care.”

The award was presented November 1 during the Press Ganey National Client Conference in Orlando, Fla. Accepting the award were Cindy Carstens, CEO, HomeCare supervisor Shelly Hammen, RN, and HomeCare nurses Holly Wuebker, RN, and Jenny Roby, RN.
