OB Department Welcomes First Baby of 2023

(Lake City, IA) The first baby born in 2023 at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital (SMCH) of Lake City has arrived. Emma May was born to parents Jessica and Luke of Rockwell City. The New Year Baby entered the world at 4:36 PM on Thursday, January 12, weighing 7 pounds, 4 ounces and measuring 20 inches long. She was delivered by Susan Hornback, D.O., and was welcomed by three older siblings.

To celebrate the birth of the New Year Baby, the family was given a basket of gifts generously donated by SMCH and its employees. The gift basket included diapers and baby wipes, blankets, a stuffed animal, bottle cleaner brushes, an infrared thermometer, a nose and ear cleaning tool, various lotions, washes and ointments, swaddle wraps, caps, pants, hooded towels, bibs, a soothing pacifier, nursery wall decor, several toys and teethers, and monthly milestone cards.
