OB Supervisor Jenni Macke Earns DAISY Award Nomination

Jenni Macke RN, has been named SMCH's latest recipient of the DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s & Purdue Global programs to recognize the care and compassion nurses display each day. Macke has been with SMCH for over 35 years and is a supervisor in the obstetrics department.

Macke was nominated for the award by a patient who wanted to recognize the compassion she displayed during the patient's labor and deliveries. In the award nomination story, the patient stated, “Jenni was my nurse at three of my four births. She never questioned my decision to have an unmedicated birth, rather she was always so positive and helpful in finding different positions to move things along. She is so positive, knowledgeable, and compassionate. That first unmedicated birth was 19 hours long, and I couldn’t have done it without her!"

SMCH Chief Nursing Officer Ann Lengeling, said, “Jenni truly lives out our mission of caring for our patients as our family, and we are proud to have her at SMCH.”

The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died in late 1999 at the age of 33 from complications of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem.” The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families.

SMCH and McCrary-Rost Clinic nurses work to provide skillful and compassionate care each day. Patients, visitors, families, nurses, physicians, and employees may nominate a deserving nurse by completing a nomination form here.
