SMCH Staff Recognizes Outstanding Senior Leadership

Last month, the Rewards & Recognition Committee received a Team Award nomination for the SMCH senior leaders. After discussing the nomination in a recent meeting, it became apparent that Cindy, Jim and Ann deserved to be recognized for their willingness to go the extra mile for our patients, our staff, and our community as a whole. At the meeting, there was a room full of people that came up with multiple examples of how our senior team demonstrates SMCH values and lives our culture every single day. The senior team is very good at recognizing and appreciating the work of others, but now it’s our turn to say thank you! We are incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated, compassionate, and kind Senior Team.

"I would like to nominate the Senior Team for the Team Award. In the 10 years that I have been here, I have seen them go above and beyond in helping departments move and clean up after numerous floods. To witness your senior leaders getting their hands dirty right alongside myself and others is an amazing thing, and very rare to see. The Senior Team consistently rolls up their sleeves to help, clean and organize, especially with the recent moving. We are so lucky to have a Senior Team that is down to Earth – you will see them leading the way to clean ditches, pull weeds, and even ride on parade floats.

I have a particular memory from when I had just started with SMCH. After sitting down by myself at a table to eat lunch, Cindy sat down right beside me, and we enjoyed our lunches together.

When we were in the process of preparing the new Rehab Services gym floor for opening, we were trying to figure out how to best clean the floor. We were having a lot of issues, and Jim stepped up to help. He took the floor scrubber from Housekeeping and spent his weekend cleaning the floor. Also, when Cardiac and Outpatient Registration opened, three of us housekeepers went to clean the new lobby area. Jim kept insisting that he could help with whatever we needed, and again offered to run a floor scrubber. Although we had enough help, Jim still found something to do! He moved the new furniture out of the way so we could clean the floor, then moved it all back when we were done.

It's not every day that your Senior Leader joins you for a walk, some lunch, serves treats at an R&R event, jumps in to start an IV, or much less, picks up a shift on the floor. But there have been many times that Ann has done just that. Every time she offers to pick up an open shift, I try to talk her out of it. But Ann picks up those shifts anyway! Knowing that Ann is all in made me feel like we are truly all in it together, making it easier to me to pick up shifts and help, too."
