Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Shortness of breath?  How do you qualify for pulmonary rehab?

Patients who suffer from shortness of breath can benefit from pulmonary rehab or respiratory therapy services to help them improve their breathing. The most common diagnosis for qualifying for pulmonary rehab is COPD or COVID-19. However, shortness of breath related to different medical conditions may qualify if the pulmonary function testing (PFT) results indicate a need.  Medical provider referrals are required for treatment, so please talk to your provider about a referral if you feel like it may help.

What should I expect during pulmonary rehab?

Our expert staff will complete assessments of your breathing ability at rest and during activity during your initial appointment.  During your appointments, they will monitor your vitals with telemetry equipment and pulse oximeters to ensure your safety. After assessing you, staff will work with you to develop a treatment plan to improve your ability to breath for your daily needs.  Each plan is reviewed and certified by our medical director, so you know that you are getting the highest quality of care.

After assessment, you can participate in up to 36 sessions working towards your goals. Patients typically attend rehab 2-3 times per week as dictated by your needs and schedule. The number of sessions and weeks of attendance are determined by your needs and vary widely.  Most patients get the most benefit for the least time commitment if they attend 3 times per week during the initial stage.
